So it wasn't the transmission.

The Lord smiled upon our family budget and saved us $3,000 to $4,000 to replace a transmission on a 2005 SUV.

Instead, it will be $1100 to replace the transmission fluid lines and cooler which were rusted out, causing our Expedition to peter to a halt on the interstate.

Still a blow, but not impossible.

  1. That is good news. Our cars are of a similar vintage a 2001 and 2003. The 2005 van dies four years ago.
Who know how much longer we can keep the plates spinning and the balls in the air...

  2. I hear you. Some of those plates seem more like manhole covers at times.

Our other car is a 2009 Impala, the first car younger than most of our children. But it's showing some creakiness, and it's just going to have to wait its turn.

I misunderstood--it is the radiator proper which needs replacing. Too much corrosion to the connection points, which I saw with my own eyes. Not that I needed to--this set of mechanics is trust worthy. But it does explain the high cost.

Now here's hoping the replacement radiator comes in soon.
