Seven Days in January?

I think it is wise to keep the powder dry on this one.

Milley is a tacking oaf, but Woodward isn't entirely reliable in his reporting.

If it is true--and it's still a big if--then he needs to be booted out the door posthaste.

Civilian control of the military is one of those essential norms that are supposed to be sacrosanct in a true republic.

Recall MacArthur being tossed out on his arse by President Truman, and rightfully so?

If it's true, Milley should get the boot, too.

But in our polarized madhouse, maybe not. And if not, Lord have mercy.

A lot of people these days seem to want something like a Caesar...and in the end, people in a democracy tend to get what they want. Good and hard, as Mencken said.

  1. I'm not a particular fan of the military. But given widespread concerns about the holder of the White House top executive seat from the start, I find it hard to muster too much outrage on this one. A military opting for peace instead of WW3? So far, so good. Clearly, the rest of the GQP couldn't be trusted to put checks on a seriously ill and unhinged man in the Big Chair.

  2. Trump was the least war like President in my lifetime. He was hated by the powers that be at the Pentagon for that fact. Milley is a paranoid nut who confused his role with that of the elected President.

    1. Gen Milley may end up tendering his resignation in the end. It might be the honorable thing to do, and perhaps he knows it. Mr Trump may well have been the broker behind deals with NK, the Taliban, and such. But he certainly was no pro-peace president. People younger than age 40 don't remember Mr Carter, alas. He had his flaws, for sure. And his rehab proceeds slower than Mr Nixon's. But he was certainly the most honorable president in my lifetime.

Be reasonably civil. Ire alloyed with reason is fine. But slagging the host gets you the banhammer.
