Christopher Johnson, Rest in Peace.

One of blogging's early greats left our vale of tears in November.

I am posting as a former library co-worker of Chris'. I don't know exactly when, but he has indeed recently passed away. I apologize for not having more information but that is all we were told.

I know he had been battling chronic illness and difficulty with internet access.

His passing is a heavy blow. A kind gentleman and a keen, witty writer, he deserves to be remembered. His personal kindnesses to me and mine certainly are.

Memory Eternal, Chris.

May the Lord rest the soul of His servant Christopher, and give him the peace and joy of Heaven.

  1. I've kept him in mind right along. I would be pleased if his family put a notice in the paper if he has indeed died. There are three siblings. A pseudonymous comment from someone who professes to have worked in a place where he has not been employed in 9 years (who offers no information about who told her) strikes me as something I do not altogether trust. One of his regulars knew him offline and was helping him with his IT problems at one point. Cannot remember the man's name.

He does not appear to have had a Facebook account.

  2. The lack of an obit is odd. As is the lack of comment from the guy who helped him.

I am not as suspicious of the MichelleH comment. It seems like something a co-worker from long ago who knew about his blog would say.

In Missouri, you can order death certificates online. After payday, I plan to order one to confirm--or, more hopefully, not.

  3. Both of his sisters have Facebook accounts, as does at least one nephew. One sister's account displays only a seven year old profile picture. The other two accounts have no remarks on him. His sister in St. Louis made frequent posts throughout 2020, then nothing.

Be reasonably civil. Ire alloyed with reason is fine. But slagging the host gets you the banhammer.
