Madeleine: "Daddy, Dale says he won't play with me because he only plays with me on Mondays."
Me: "This is a Monday."
Maddie: [brightens] "Oh, OK."
Me: "Dale, this is Monday."
Dale: "I didn't know that. All right."
Then they proceed to play amicably in the dirt.
Problem solved.
