Lloyd Carr.

Say what you will about the man's coaching woes over the past four years, he was a great man and a great shaper of young men. I'm sad to say that he's the last of a dying breed of old-school coach. One of the most memorable outburst he had was probably the most telling: when the faithful had had enough of the woes of QB John Navarre one game, they started booing him. After the game, he roared "You don't boo your own team! These are college players!"

The anecdotes here and here (scroll to the bottom) also give you something of the measure of the man.

His speech at Bo's memorial service is emblematic.

I expect we're going to miss him more as the years pass.

Thanks, Coach. Enjoy your retirement--you have definitely earned it.

Be reasonably civil. Ire alloyed with reason is fine. But slagging the host gets you the banhammer.
