In a television interview months later, the same leader described Zionists as “these bloodsuckers who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs.”

It is bewildering that no U.S. aircraft ever came to the aid of the defenders. If even one F18 had been on station, it would have detected the location of hostiles firing at night and deterred and attacked the mortar sites. For our top leadership, with all the technological and military tools at their disposal, to have done nothing for seven hours was a joint civilian and military failure of initiative and nerve.

Secretary of State Clinton has said the responsibility was hers. But there has been no assertion that the State Department overruled the Pentagon out of concern about the sovereignty of Libyan air space. Instead, it appears passive groupthink prevailed, with the assumption being that a spontaneous mob would quickly run out of steam.

Firefights, however, wax and wane from dusk to dawn. You cannot predict ahead of time when they will stop. Therefore a combat commander will take immediate action, presuming reinforcements will be needed.

The administration wrongly blamed a mob for the attack. Yet ironically, Mr. Obama’s chances of reelection would have plummeted were it not for the human decency of a mob that took the ambassador to the hospital before the terrorists returned.

If the terrorists had taken his body and, with no Special Operations Forces hot on their trail, taunted America the next day — claiming the ambassador was still alive — the Benghazi tragedy would have escalated into an international disaster. The U.S. military sent no aid. Why?

Read the whole thing, but note especially how the President dons and doffs the religiousity cloak with the effortlessness of a Gantry.

To flatter his faith-breakfast guests and justify his tax policies, Obama declares good works to be the essence of religiosity. Yet he turns around and, through Sebelius, tells the faithful who engage in good works that what they’re doing is not religion at all. You want to do religion? Get thee to a nunnery. You want shelter from the power of the state? Get out of your soup kitchen and back to your pews. Outside, Leviathan rules.

There is a profound difference between the freedom of religion enshrined in the First Amendment and the "freedom of worship" envisioned by this administration. The Kulturkampf makes that plain. By all means, enjoy your quaint ceremonial holdovers from a more brutish time. But don't think of carrying it into the work week.

Which is becoming increasingly troubling to me.

It also put up a blog post by Cecilia Munoz, director of the House Domestic Policy Council, pointing out that “no individual health care provider will be forced to prescribe contraception” and “no individual will be forced to buy or use contraception.”

And White House press secretary Jay Carney said at Thursday’s afternoon briefing that there was “not a debate” over reversing the decision. “The decision has been made, and it was made after careful consideration,” he said.

"Message: We don't care."

American Legion demands crackdown on "ideology of jihad":

Private William Long's slaying is the most recent in a string of murders in the service of the Islamic doctrine of jihad, and thousands of people have been injured or threatened since the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 because of the ideology of jihad. Bringing the killers to justice is not enough - the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security must root out and prosecute as domestic terrorists and violent racketeers those who support this criminal enterprise that has organized and funded these violent acts for decades. We call on the new attorney general Eric Holder and head of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to treat these murders in the same way they would treat politically-motivated domestic terrorism of any other kind and put the full resources of their two departments behind that effort.

No, class, your assignment for the week to compare and contrast the media coverage of and governmental response to the apparently religiously-motivated murders in Kansas and Ar-Kansas on Sunday and Monday.

To the extent the latter gets covered at all, take care to note who gets the broadbrush, guilt-by-association treatment, demands for introspection and reform, sympathetic coverage and story-framing, and expensive governmental security measures and sympathetic press release from the Chief Executive of the Republic.

And, no, for the record, I don't want to see Muslims get smeared and I do think the pro-life movement has to be vigilant against the fringers. I'd just like the relevant parties to make a half-assed toss at impartiality for once, instead of the usual deck-stacking, special pleading and cynical partisanship.

You know, I thought it would be impossible to make George W. Bush look like a model of fiscal restraint.

Denouncing an "orgy of spending and enormous deficits," he turned to John McCain during their presidential debates last fall and said, "We have had, over the last eight years, the biggest increases in deficit spending and national debt in our history…Now we have a half-trillion deficit annually…and Sen. McCain voted for four out of five of those George Bush budgets."

Just how consequential was made clear last week in a little-noticed conference call featuring Budget Director Peter Orszag. Orszag was trying to explain to reporters how the Obama administration calculated its rather rosy forecasts for economic growth. Near the end of the call, he was asked whether deficits along the lines of those predicted by the Congressional Budget Office are sustainable.

Orszag at first dodged the question, saying he was sure the final Obama budget will "reflect a fiscally sustainable path." But the questioner persisted: Are those deficits sustainable? Relenting, Orszag said such deficits, in the range of five percent of the Gross Domestic Product, "would lead to rising debt-to-GDP ratios in a manner that would ultimately not be sustainable."

I'm not exactly a fiscal conservative. My views on government spending are pretty lackadaisical: it has to be (1) moral/ethical, (2) constitutional and (3) paid for. I'll avoid the taffy pulls on the first two and simply note that if you can't agree we're in serious trouble on (3), you need to get to an emergency room ASAP.

The Director of National Intelligence [sic] announced yesterday that some Guantanamo detainees will be resettled in America and given living stipends.

There's no possible commentary on this story. But here's some background on the "non-threatening" detainees the DNI is talking about:

None of the 17 Uighurs are master terrorists on par with the likes of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. They were mostly new recruits at the time of their capture. However, as I have argued before, they are all affiliated with and/or members of a designated terrorist organization, received training at a training camp in the al Qaeda/Taliban stronghold of Tora Bora, and have admitted that they were trained by two known terrorists. And, on top of that, the group that trained them threatened to attack the Olympic Games in China last year.

Good to know we have experts who have it all figured out in charge of things. Here's hoping there's no spectacular attack on, I don't know, the Chinese embassy, anytime soon. Let alone some other target(s) selected by embittered ex-detainees eager for revenge on the Great Satan.

Missed in all the conflagration over Obama funding destruction of embryonic human life (Think of it as a stimulus package for biotech corporations!™) is this malevolent tidbit:

Oh, and the campaign has decided it's going to shout down anybody who offers a criticism in a public forum.

The aggressive rebuttals are very much informed by Obama's determination to avoid being victimized by the sort of attacks leveled against Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee stung by TV ads run by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Except, of course, that regurgitating scripted bullet-points that boil down to "he's a liar!" isn't a "rebuttal," no more than a group of zombies saying "braaaaaaainnnnnnns" constitutes a dialogue.

When the Senator said Palin's family was out of bounds, he didn't mean a word of it.

Right on cue, a stream of allegedly grassroots videos defaming Palin. Until, uh, it was noticed that they were coming right out of a firm retained by Obama's campaign manager. Then they started to get yanked at light speed.

Four years of this? No thanks. McCain-Palin has my vote.
